Annemarie's Bio

Hi everyone! 

My name is Annemarie Salvione, I am 32 years old. I was born and raised in Mexico. In May 2021, I decided to move to Phoenix. In August of that same year, I got a job at Costco. Leaving my life in Mexico and trying to make a living over here has been difficult, which got me thinking about what I wanted to do with my life. So, after a few months, I decided to enroll in school, and now I am a student pursuing an associate's degree in programming and systems analysis. I am a very driven person, and even though it's been hard, I consider myself lucky to have a job and be able to go to school. 

I am a huge family person, so when I get the opportunity, I go to Mexico to visit my family. I brought my dog with me when I moved here, and that helps with the loneliness, but being away from my family is one of the hardest things I have had to do. I don't have many hobbies, and most of my day goes by between work and school-related activities, but I enjoy reading, playing with my dog & singing.

  Hello everyone!! This week, I worked with Josh in the lab, learning how to access Google Colabs and looking into learning Python as a programming language in Google Colabs as well. As part of my internship, I will try to learn how to code in Python by finding online tutorials or exercises. If someone in this group knows of any good and helpful web pages for me, please let me know since I am still searching for some. I am excited to try and learn Python independently since it is a skill I will significantly benefit from. I will inform you about my progress and post some learning exercises here. Week 1 blog

  Hi everyone! This semester, I will learn a little about Python as a programming language and work with Microsoft Azure; & I will also do some of the things I did in the previous semester, which is plating the bacteria and taking pictures of the colonies. I am excited, & nervous at the same time to start this new semester. Last semester was challenging because I was a full-time student and worked an average of 30 to 40 hours at Costco. I am in the same boat this semester, so I am nervous, but I did well in all my classes last semester, so I am confident that I can do it again this semester. I hope everyone has an excellent first week of school!

Week 11 post

 Hi everyone,  Today in the lab, I had to get several more samples of two bacteria under my gram-positive cocci: Staphylococcus aureus (SA) and Enterococcus faecalis (EF). I did three plates for each bacteria to be put in the incubator with no temp and three other samples of each bacteria to be placed in the incubator at 37 degrees. I uploaded photos of bacteria to the teachable machine as well. I had to learn to use this machine using images for gram-positive bacilli since I still don't have any for my gram-positive cocci. Hopefully, this week I will get some photos of colony formations for the samples I placed today so I can upload them into the machine learning.
